Inside her casket are the fetal bones of a unborn black child. As her body surfaces, a newly named named serial killer thinks himself sent by God to judge the deeds of man. He’s cutting off hands and feet, nailing them to a cross.

Are the two events connected?

Finding out becomes a matter of death and consequences for a government specialist who has problems of his own.

Set in Princeville, NC, one of the oldest incorporated black town in America, during the aftermath of Hurricane Floyd, The Scent of Gardenia begins as a tale of murder, secrets and lies. It evolves as a story of belonging, sacrifice, and love.

Throughout, it is a search for Truth.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

M.E.B.Smith grew up in eastern North Carolina and resides in Charlotte. She is a graduate of the University of North Carolina and former manager of corporate responsibility for a Fortune 500 company. She is founder of the Justice and Equity Foundation for Youth. Proceeds from the sale of this book benefit this non-profit organization designed to help keep 8-14 year old boys of color out of jail, and empower caregivers with knowledge of how the law works should it fail.

The Scent of Gardenia is for mature readers. The Keepers of Carifa, a companion creation story from the novel is published for young adults, and makes SOG unique. Blood of Their Sons is a story of a mother’s revenge over the death of her son, and the spiritual journey that follows.
